Casinos In The Cloud – A Promising New Era For Online Gambling

Over the past twenty years, the online casino industry, like much of the world, has been all but revolutionised by technology. From better internet to mobile devices, and now AI and virtual reality, with every great milestone in tech, online casinos have received yet another boost to their already great success.

Now online casinos, together with much of the world’s online business and digital services, are set benefit from the next big step. Cloud computing.

The Benefits Of The Cloud

Cloud-based tech, aka cloud computing, or in terms of games, cloud gaming, is basically an online infrastructure on which to develop and deliver products and services, using the cloud. This provides a number of benefits to consumers and businesses, and in particular, online casinos:

  • It negates the need for businesses to purchase and maintain their own servers, saving them huge costs.
  • It provides several tools and services to help streamline and maintain site functionality.
  • User information on the cloud is highly secure.
  • No need to download or install games. Instead, they are streamed straight to the player’s device.
  • This means any casino game, no matter the size or requirements, is playable on virtually any PC or mobile device with internet and a browser.
  • Games and services can be easily updated online without bothering users.

Cloud computing has been designed for the next generation of internet, commonly called “Web 3.0” in the tech world and requires a large bandwidth and high internet speed to support it. With 5G and fibre doing just that, and other tech like AI becoming widely implemented, things are set to change in big ways in the coming years.

Current Forms Of Cloud Computing

At the moment, there are generally 3 types of cloud computing for online casinos to make use of, depending on their customer-base, whether they offer online blackjack real money, roulette or other table games, slots or a selection of all different types of entertainment and needs.

  • Video Streaming – The most common and convenient method, games and services are essentially video-streamed to a device. All the device needs to do is provide control.
  • File Streaming – A slightly less convenient method, chunks of temporary information is stored and deleted on the user’s device while the game or service is in use.
  • Command Streaming – Shares certain process with the cloud-server and the user’s device. The cloud handles the majority of the workload, while the device handles the user input as well as rendering the visuals. The least convenient method, as it may require having a capable graphics card, and may potentially also cause lag. Online casinos are unlikely to use this method though.

Is Cloud Computing Definitely The Future Of Online Casinos?

With technology progressing as fast as it is, and world constantly changing and facing new challenges, nothing is particularly certain nowadays. However, much like AI, the sheer logic and usefulness of cloud computing will likely cause it to have a substantial part to play in our online future. Unless things change drastically, this will likely also hold true for its in online casinos, though in the end, only time will truly tell.
